I seem to have stumped folks with yesterday’s meme, so today I’ll offer clues to the movies that you haven’t guessed. (I will say that I didn’t pick any quote if I couldn’t remember it being said.) Here are some potentially better-known quotes:
- “A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.”
- “This is your dance space. I don’t go into yours, you don’t go into mine.” Rudi got it!
- “Ahh, a bear in his natural habitat — a Studebaker.” Catherine got it!
- “You have everything it takes to make a lovely woman except the one essential: an understanding heart. And without that you might just as well be made of bronze.”
- “How many drinks have you had?”
“This will make six Martinis.”
[To the waiter] “All right. Will you bring me five more Martinis, Leo? Line them right up here.” Rudi guessed this one on the other post just as I was posting this clue. And so did Sarah. - “You are the most beautiful girl in the world.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“No! I’m madly in love with you and it’s not because of your brains or your personality.” Jenn got it! - “Face it, girls, I’m older and I have more insurance.” Sam got it!
- Catherine correctly guessed The Princess Bride.
- “O Captain, my Captain.” Sam and Catherine guessed this one simultaneously!
- “…If you’re ever under a falling building and someone offers to pick you up and carry you to safety, don’t think, don’t pause, don’t hesitate for a moment, just spit in his eye.” Karen got it!
Does that help?
#3 = THE MUPPET MOVIE! How could I have missed that?! #9 = Dead Poets Society
Comment by Catherine 03.11.08 @ 3:21 pmWell, it certainly jars a couple loose: #7 is Fried Green Tomatoes, #9 is Dead Poets Society.
Comment by forepac 03.11.08 @ 3:21 pmI lost a number of hours yesterday looking for a quote from the Princess Bride to use, it being my #1 all time favorite movie, but it was already in your list and really, quoting a single line leads to replaying the whole movie in your head. Here’s my ten (without copy/paste blunders this time) and I tried to pick lines that were not quite as obscure as your choices:
“They used to be fat and juicy and now they’re twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they’re just humiliated grapes. I can’t say I am a big supporter of the raisin council.”
“At last, we can retire and give up this life of crime.”
“I found you in hell. Don’t you think I could find you in Jersey!”
“There is no spoon.”
“Kitty!”
“One grain of sand. It is all that remains of my vast empire.”
“For my will is as strong as yours, my kingdom as great…”
“Of course not. You’re a boy.”
“Wait! We cannot break bread with you. You have taken the land which is rightfully ours. Years from now my people will be forced to live in mobile homes on reservations. Your people will wear cardigans, and drink highballs. We will sell our bracelets by the road sides, and you will play golf, and eat hot hors d’oeuvres. My people will have pain and degradation. Your people will have stick shifts. The gods of my tribe have spoken. They said do not trust the Pilgrims, especially Sarah Miller.”
“You’re keeping me alive because you don’t know DOS?”
Comment by Grey Kitten 03.11.08 @ 5:15 pmGK, I don’t know. Your first quote is obviously Benny & Joon.
And “Kitty!” is from Monsters, Inc.
And the rest I don’t know. Anyone else?
Comment by soe 03.11.08 @ 5:27 pm5 is The Thin Man (Nora, Nick, Nora)
Comment by Sarah 03.11.08 @ 5:40 pm#10 was driving me nuts, so thanks for extra hint. It’s gotta be White Christmas. I’m guessing Grey Kitten’s 6, 7, and 8 are Neverending Story, Labyrinth, and Dark Crystal.
Comment by Karen 03.11.08 @ 6:56 pmAh, I knew the Dead Poet’s Society quote before you added the hint, but get this… It turns out that I actually have to type the reply and not just think it in order for you to be aware of it. Shocking, isn’t it?
