Three beautiful things from earlier this birthday week:
1. I awake at 7 a.m. on Sunday to use the bathroom. The sky glows pink in an otherworldly kind of way.
2. Because the sidewalks are slick between my polling place and the Burrow, I am shuffling along slowly enough to notice the tiny icicles that have formed on awnings, signs, and fences.
3. Rebs calls at one a.m. to say that she and Rick have booked their flight to Guatemala City in two weeks to go pick up their son and bring him home for the first time. When I heard the phone ring, I just *knew* it was her calling with good news.
What’s beautiful in your world these days?
I saw that same stunningly pink sky. I’m happy to know I wasn’t the only one who got to enjoy it.
Comment by Christine 02.14.08 @ 10:43 amHappy birthday, sprite! Hope it’s a good one.
(Not directly 3BT-related, I know, but I am a big believer in birthdays being beautiful, so I think it counts. And congrats to your friends — and their new son. Woo!)
Comment by Sarah 02.14.08 @ 1:16 pmKady comes into the bathroom to help with shaving. Almost every morning.
She doesn’t come if you are just in the bathroom to use the potty. She’s only there for the shaving part, to walk around on the counter and bump into elbows and torsos that get too close.
It isn’t the sound of the electric razor that draws her, either, because she’s often there ahead of turning it on.
Nor is it simply the time of day. She keeps up this routine even if you mix things up and shave in the evening.
Somehow, she just knows.
Every night as we lie down in bed, Duke comes to spend a few moments tummy-walking. He has no interest in backs, or hips if you are on your side. Just climbing up onto tummies. If you pet him, he’ll settle down for a few minutes. If you ignore him, he’ll eventually go off to the foot of the bed to curl up and sleep.
