my d.c.: winter farmers’ market
posted by soe 3:05 am

Late February and early March are the blahest of the months for me, so posting tends to be erratic at this time of the year. But before anyone sends out the search engines for me, I offer you this belated My D.C. photo series:

Winter Market

This is taken at the Q Street end of the Dupont Circle Freshfarm Market, which happens year-round every Sunday. During the winter months, the selection and the hours are somewhat curtailed, but you still find a surprising bounty and an eager crowd.

My market basket overflowed this morning. It included a gorgeous cabbage, greenhouse lettuce and mache, potatoes, jam, pear and apple ciders, apples, a chicken breast, yogurt, and cheese.

I literally couldn’t have fit another item into the basket, so it’s just as well I arrived in the last hour the market is open. If I’d made it out of the house earlier, I would have bought some flowers, a breakfast pastry, and some greenhouse cherry tomatoes.

Oi, I’m so jealous of your year-round market. It looks amazing!

That all looks wonderful. I really have to get to one of the local farmers markets soon.

At least the markets stay open year round in DC. Up here where some of the produce is grown, it closes in October. I need to make a trip to a DC one again. They offer more variety and people watching.

I love the buckets of lilies. SO lovely!

Thank you for sharing your sympathy with me. It means so much. I’m looking forward to spending time with family and celebrating Grampy’s long and eventful life with everyone.

BIG HUG!
