names needed
posted by soe 1:42 am

I need some names for a cappella groups in my novel. Ever wanted to name a band or a singing group? Now’s your opportunity…. Leave me a comment with your ideas.

(For those who did not attend a liberal arts college in New England, an a cappella group is a singing group that does not use instrumentation in their performances. Some adapt modern pop music and fake the instrumentation with human voices.)

(Edited to add: As the strains of my favorite Kris Delmhorst song came over the computer speakers tonight, I passed the 15,000 mark. And it’s not even 3 a.m. yet!)

Category: nanowrimo. There is/are 6 Comments.

the one thought that came to mind was the subdudes but maybe that is already a band?! hubby has just offered the aces. sorry we’re not more helpful!

– Power Suck Low Rise (the name of a low rise quad of geeks who had lots of geeky electronics, I always felt it should be the name of a band)

– Ono Mato Poetic (starring a Japanese or Korean boy named (stage named?) Mato Ono)

– Los Voces de la Máquina
– Groovy Tuesdays

– Miauler (babelfish claims this is French for “caterwauling”)

– Analog Ringtones

– The deVanyels (singers would probably be D&D players in Ren. Faire garb. Name is a reference to Mercedes Lackey’s Last Herald Mage series, in which the main character, Vanyel Ashkevron, wanted to be a bard but was instead chosen to be a Herald Mage.)

– B Sides
– Cover Girls
– Consonance

– The Em P. Three (group of three with names (or at least stage names that can be shortened to Em. P., such as Emelio Patterson, Emanuel Petron, and Emily Petey)

– Sixpence
– Fashion and Beauty Consultant Quartet
– Nurse or Re-rhymes
– The Grateful Deaf
– Snuffleupagus’ Esophagus
– Squeeling Pigs in a Poke
– Yellow Bow Ties
– Ground Control
– Sister Mary Clarence’s Choir

It’s amazing how similar 50’s doo wop group names are to a capella choir names, other than Grey Kitten’s suggestions. They’re more out of the 70-80’s musical ebb. Though I’m partial towards the grateful deaf.

Ivy tones
Crib notes
Merri-chords
Monks and Nuns (but not if the school is Catholic)
Song bytes
Steed and Mrs. Peel’s Children
Many little lambs (baa baa baa)
Merry medievaleers
Chants and chanteuses
Flukes
