Thursday night, I stayed up too late. (Oh, shush! I know!)
I had probably just dozed off, curled up around Rudi, when I heard Jeremiah trilling at me from my side of the bed. It was not his normal trill, but I figure that he wants to curl up and is disgruntled that I’m in his spot. He frequently trills and has been known to mix it up.
I woke up enough to say, “Okay, sweetie. Lie down.” I patted the pillow above my head.
I heard a tap on my pillow.
I do not know what deeply seated natural instinct made me think, That’s not right.
But the next thing I know, I’ve let out a loud “Eep!” (Rudi, whom I awoke with it, assures me it was not an “Eek!”)
Jeremiah had dropped a cockroach on my pillow.
Now awake, I turn on the light, carefully grab the pillow and carry it to the bathroom where I groggily attempt to flick the cockroach into the toilet. I fail and we both scuttle off to our respective corners to nurse our injuries — real or imagined.
I mean, I’m glad that Jeremiah hunts bugs down. But did he really need to share it with me? And in the early hours of the morning?
Gah!
(Welcome to Monday, folks!)
I don’t know if I’d have gotten back to sleep after that one! I bet that would really freak-out a non-cat person. We stayed in a rental house in Hawaii some years ago and the resident cat left a wee songbird on the mat each morning.
Comment by Julie 05.19.08 @ 6:07 amIt’s probably destined to be one of those mondays.
While I didn’t have any insects dropped on my by our cats, I did get up early enough to get to work well before our 8 AM meeting. I use my phone as an alarm clock these days, and it was fine this morning. When I looked at it again at 7, as I was just getting in to work, I saw that the front screen now sports a huge crack. My guess is it pressed against the seat belt on the ride to work.
I got to work at 7 so I could take advantage of breakfast. Went to the cafeteria, and the grill was broken. So, with three things going wrong before 8 AM, it seems like this is going to be a bad bad day.
Our walk-up center folks tell me there’s no insurance on the phones or warranty that covers physical damage, so to get it replaced would be to have my department buy a whole new phone.
Then there’s the database application I have to support. It arbitrarily deletes a certain required file. I can’t imagine why this would happen.

By the way, you nailed my daughter. Yes, she would love to share the Moth shawl – luckily I also finished a smaller one (Forest Canopy) which I did agree that we could share!
