where oh where

Where oh where has my tomato gone?
Where oh where can it be?
With its red, rolly shape and its great bite and taste
Where oh where can it be?
No, seriously? Have you seen a cherry tomato? Homegrown? I made the mistake of clearing the rest of the stuff off the counter and then going out for the evening with friends. I came home — one still on the counter, one on the floor by the cats dish, one … where?
The cats look guilty, but refuse to tell me where they hid this new toy.
If you were a cherry tomato, where would you be?

8/13/05 Update: The missing cherry tomato has been relocated (and, for good measure, consumed). Thank you for your concern.
sleepiness

My internal clock is all screwed up today.
Yesterday, I got up early to take Rudi to the airport. I had a four-hour nap in the evening and awoke for a rather groggy dinner at 9:15 or so.
Apparently my body didn’t feel it was necessary to go back to sleep at a reasonable hour (or it just missed a warm body next to me), because I tossed and turned all night.
I ignored both the alarm clock and my cell phone’s alarms this morning and ended up oversleeping.
Thank goodness tomorrow is Saturday. I’m planning to sleep in!

tickling bugs, movie virgins, and not being talked out
posted by soe 12:50 pm
I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, so I’m posting this before I head out.
Three beautiful things from earlier in the week:
1. When we were at the vineyard on Saturday, Rudi and I were relaxing on some chairs in the shade while we waited for his tasting to begin. A shiny black and yellow striped flying critter found me irresistable and started hovering over my leg, pausing now and then to “lick” me. It was such an odd sensation, being tickled by a bug!
2. It’s always so much fun to go to see a showing of a movie you’ve seen a number of times and to hear how the audience reacts to the scenes. It was obvious at the AFI showing of After the Thin Man, that some people were newbies to the series because they had that great reaction that only comes when you first experience a particular scene or line.
3. As I’ve mentioned many times before, Karen and I have known each other since high school. We don’t talk every week, but usually manage to phone once or twice a month (and then for hours and hours). When we were in high school, we talked on the phone almost every night, as teenagers often do. But somehow we’ve never run out of things to talk about, even after all these years.
who on earth?

Who on earth were all those crazy people in cars out before the sun was up? I’m sure some of them were perfectly respectable people out taking people to airports or hospitals, but who were the rest of them? Why were they up that early? If they had to be up that early, why were they out driving? And in such crazy numbers?

no more living rooms
posted by soe 6:11 pm
I’ve mentioned that I once saw Erin McKeown perform a house concert in a New Haven living room. Last night I witnessed her national television debut on Conan O’Brien’s show.
It was a solid performance, but I’m not sure it would have swayed me to check her out if I hadn’t already been familiar. I’ve heard her do better.
If you’d like to check out her performance, you can do so on her website.
While I don’t think I’ll ever witness her playing just to me and 15 other people again, it is obvious she’s trying to remain true to her folk roots by encouraging taping at her shows and by hosting links to bootlegged shows on her website. Good for her.
Go check her out!
